Credentials must be certified by an officer of the educational institution issuing the documents or by an official employed by the U.S. embassy or consulate.

Notice of Admission
Applications will be acted on and admission offered only after the application fee, required test scores, letters of reference, official copies of all transcripts, and required supporting materials are received by the Department of Economics. Admission decisions will be announced in writing by the Department of Economics to each applicant as soon as they are available. Applicants who are approved for admission will also receive, from the Office of Admissions and Records and, if requested, an official document to be used to apply for a visa to enter the United States.

Transcripts
Use the enclosed transcript labels to request that an official transcript of your academic record from each community college, senior college, university, or graduate and professional school you have attended be sent to the Department of Economics at the address listed above. It is not necessary, however, to submit a transcript covering work completed at the Urbana-Champaign campus of the University of Illinois. The Office of Admissions and Records will obtain this for you. When completing the application form, be sure to list all of the institutions you have attended, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Proof of English Proficiency
If you are an applicant whose native language is not English (including U.S. citizens), you must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) within two years prior to enrollment. To take the test you should make arrangements directly with TOEFL, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541-6151 or on the Web at www.toefl.org. You may be exempt from this testing if you have completed at least two academic years of full-time study within five years of the proposed date of enrollment at the University of Illinois, in a country where English is the primary language, and in a school where English is the language of instruction. The University requires a score of at least 550 from the paper and pencil test, and 213 from the computer test. If you are admitted but score below 610 (paper test) or 257 (computer test) on the TOEFL, an English Placement Test (EPT) will be required upon arrival at the University. On the basis of EPT results, students may be required to enroll in noncredit English courses and take a reduced academic load.
